Pinball Fantasies

Pinball on a computer or console at one time would have been unthinkable. Back in the early 90's my brother had his Amiga and called me in to see a new game he'd bought, Pinball Fantasies. This was a pinball game on a computer system which looked and played brilliantly.

I was soon trying to muscle in and play on the Amiga to get a Pinball fix. Digital Illusions had made this game as a follow up to the also excellent Pinball Dreams. In Pinball Fantasies you have 4 tables to choose from, a car themed one "Speed Devils", "Party Land" themed around a funfair, a game show inspired table "Billion Dollar Game Show" and the fourth which was my favourite "Stones n Bones" based around haunted houses and such. Each table has the standard pinball elements and some extras to hit to increase your score. Getting around the ramps multiple times in succession will get you bonuses on any table. The ball physics in the game are very close to playing on an actual pinball table, and the tables are large and colourful giving a great pinball experience on the screen. Add in the sounds which being on the Amiga were almost guaranteed to be good and you have a truly spectacular pinball simulation to play without putting coins in the slot every few minutes, and you just can't resist one more go to beat your last high score. There have been some good pinball games on various home computers and consoles, but if you want the best then look for Pinball Fantasies on the Amiga.
